Finished removing the last of the wallpaper off the walls! Spent the last 8 hours getting it off though :@ But things are beginning to get back on track! Tomorrow I will be painting over the wall with a thin coat of paint to hide the pink the previous owners had painted it! Also managed to take down the black shelving which cleared massive amounts of space, now just got to remove the wardrobe and its pretty much getting there!

Again made a start trying to remove the under layer of the wallpaper but has proven more difficult than I thought it was going to be!
Spent the day with Jodie Edmunds stripping off wallpaper! Managed to get all of the top layer off but the under layer will need to be sponged before being scrapped off!!! Not a bad start to the room!
Updated the website by adding storyboards and some of the drug research I have been doing! All set for tomorrow where I will be pealing off the wallpaper and making a start on painting the designs on it if there's time!
Over the weekend i conferred with a cinematography who worked on my last short film with me, Andy Bush. I will be going to meet him tomorrow to discuss film ideas with him and work on ways of trying to develop the main character.
Today i have been working on a prop list and researching the make up special effects i want to pull off in my zombie short. After thinking about my story line over the past few days I've decided to shoot both endings. I realise i need to focus on my character development more so that the audience can feel empathy for him in the end. I will show test audiences both versions of the film and decide which majority of people prefer what ending and why but also, what emotions do they get from both versions for the character.
Spent the day emptying the back room to be converted into the set. The wall paper still needs removing off the walls and then the next stage will be painting the graffiti all over it!
Today marked the first day of bouncing ideas about to try and come up with an alternate ending. The main concern Frank has with my idea is not building enough character throughout the story line for the audience to feel sorry for him at the end. I have the same concern.
So what frank suggests is to lose the shock value at the end and exchanging it for a loving moment with his mum at the end (hugging). This i agree would be great for making the audience feel more sorry for him than him just shooting himself but it does ruin the whole shock value from the original idea. The other idea thrown my way was by the pitch tutor Simon and he believes i should have it more requiem for a dream style, flicking between both his mums view on the world and his. This is probably a better way for the audience to understand that what he see's is not real but it also throws the whole zombie shock ending concept out the window. Both ideas give me a lot to think about over the next couple of days. If i do find an ending that my tutor likes; it means getting a higher grade, a distinction (plus 10 EDEXCEL points)! That leaves me with the the tough choice of either going ahead with my original idea or changing it. Turns out pitch didn't go as well as i thought, my tutor dislikes my ending which effected my grade only achieving a Merit. I am to discuss a possible alternate ending with my other tutor Frank tomorrow morning. This is not a great start to this project, i hope this is the biggest hurdle i have to jump over as i am already well into doing my pre-production for this idea.
Morning all,
Had to do a 15 min pitch for my idea today. Overall i thought it went well with good reaction from the first year class mates who also had to sit in and watch. Plenty of questions and feedback to take away with me! Hello everyone,
Updated the website again today adding photo's from the recce round the countryside. Managed to do a second script yesterday an all which i have also uploaded. The progress is coming along nicely, next week i will begin converting the back room into a set which should be 'FUN'! If anyone is interested in acting or has any make up skills then send me a message, i may have need of your talents when the time comes to production :) Cya Updated the website today, added pictures and first draft script up now so check that out. Going to work on my 2nd draft today and try and take some more location pics around the village setting.
Morning all,
I'm going to start with a big thank you for anyone who filled out the questionnaire for me. The results have have now been uploaded to the development page, so give them a check out. I've also uploaded a couple mood boards for you to look at. This will give you all a better idea for the treatment i'm going for with this film. The next steps involves gathering the information from the questionnaires and pitch it to a specialized group. This will be to narrow down the information you have provided to better fit it into my script. I.e. 2/3 of you want to see fast zombies, so introducing this element will drastically affect the script from if i was to use slow ones. I have already written a first draft before i had acquired the feedback from the questionnaires. So now i will go away and do a second draft using your information. I will upload my first draft later on in the week so you can get a first look at what my story line is actually going to be about! I also have a few storyboards to go with the script, so keep checking back for more updates. Speak soon Hello People,
Today I started on the research that goes into the film making process. Starting from scratch, I have created a questionnaire to gather information from the people targeted towards my potential audience. The information I am seeking in this process is to discover:- - What code and conventions do the audience expect to see in a zombie film. - Clearly define who is my target audience, age range, what are their film preferences, who will watch it? - To clearly target my film audience when its finished. Where to introduce the film, wither it to be released over the internet on social media sites like Facebook/YouTube or across television. After gathering all this information from the questionnaire, I will be moving on to arranging a group meeting. The next blog will discuss the information breakdown received from the questionnaire and how I will better refine this information in the group meeting. If anyone is interested in what the questions were or wants to help by filling one in :) Click the link below, cheers.... https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1EtxsBiybOaTFoV3yte_QPOsfskMp7X-vN1WmU6-Zv4s/viewform Hello, my names Chris Deakin and I am the director of this upcoming Short Film. Over the course of the next 2 months I will be documenting my journey from start to finish on the process behind the making of this film.
I am majorly excited to be working on this story and wanting to bring a fresh concept to a zombie film code named 'SUBSTANCE'. I don't want to give to much away right now but as I progress through the making of this Film I will reveal more and more information to you. I will be taking you all through every step I take to make this film possible and TRY an make it as entertaining and engaging as possible for you. To start off with every film I am going to need to do the research and pre-production stage (the boring stuff). You may want to stick around and check it out but if not I don't blame you! If you check back in the next couple of weeks, this will be when all the really interesting stuff happens, the Production! In the production process you will get a glimpse from the sets and scenes from the film as well as actors, costume designs and some of the crew working on the set. On the release of the short film there will also be a behind the scenes video and a directors commentary, these will also be uploaded onto the website. So sit back, relax and join me on this epic journey... |
